- We believe young people have the right to be safe and to grow in environments that are free of violence, exploitation & harm.
- Our employees are subject to ongoing monitoring and child safety training.
- Our child safety strategy is informed by evidence and best practice. We put young people first and encourage them to speak up and participate in decisions that affect their lives.
- We listen to young people’s concerns and take them seriously.
- We empower our young people to understand what healthy and safe relationships look like.
- We respond to child protection concerns and share information with other agencies when required.
- We report to Community Services when we have reasonable suspicions that a young person is at risk of significant harm.
- We conduct reportable conduct investigations for the Office of the Children’s Guardian when allegations are made
- We have a dedicated safeguarding and investigations officer responsible for responding to allegations of abuse and implementing strategies to prevent abuse.
- We conduct extensive background checks on potential employees to identify people who are not suited to working with vulnerable young people.
- We prevent harm by making environments, activities and systems safer for young people.
- We have clear boundaries and expectations for how employees behave around young people. We support employees to understand and adhere to behaviour standards, but there are consequences whenever boundaries are crossed.
